The inspiration for my work stems from traditions of folklore, fairy stories and nursery rhymes, alongside a life long fascination with animals.
I am drawing on an imagination which has been shaped by treasured tales and imagery which I have translated into stoneware sculptures.
Clay is such a wonderfully expressive material and lends itself to exploring emotional connections with storytelling.
My material choice
of clay as a medium is an extension of my drawing and illustrating practice;
one informs the other. My fingers draw and shape the clay to represent fluid
forms based on anatomically correct studies, though creativity enhances and
exaggerates detail in the work.
